Reggae Vibrations Film: Studio Drummie One
Op vrijdag 18 januari om 20.15 uur hosten we in de kleine zaal van de Paradiso Amsterdam de exclusieve Nederlandse première van ‘Studio Drummie One and the History of Rocksteady Music’ (2018), de nieuwe documentaire van de Italiaans-Amerikaanse filmmaker Guy Ragosta over de ontwikkeling van rocksteady, de voorloper van reggae, in Jamaica in de jaren zestig, met een specifieke focus op de rol van de beroemde Studio One in Kingston.
Het verhaal wordt vooral verteld door de ogen (en oren) van Studio One drummer Joe Isaacs, die ooit het drumritme van rocksteady heeft uitgevonden en nu voor deze film vele legendarische muzikanten – o.a. Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, Ken Boothe Reggae, and The Heptones – ontmoet om oude tijden (en stijlen) op te halen.
